Paint colors and finishes
Every car can be delivered in different paint colors. A color is applied to the actual studio shot — reflections, chrome, glass, badges and the interior stay untouched; only the paint changes, true to its finish (solid paints stay solid, metallic paints keep their light-dependent flop).
Discover colors
The full catalog — /api/colors. Every active color, paired with the brand it belongs to:
{ "colors": [
{ "color_name": "default", "color_make": "Vehicleimagery" },
{ "color_name": "wine_red", "color_make": "Vehicleimagery" },
{ "color_name": "Racing Red", "color_make": "Kia" }
] }
Per car — the config /colors endpoint. Plain color names, kept deliberately compact: the house colors plus the colors of this car's own brand:
GET /api/Kia/Avella/1994/Basis/base/colors
→ { …, "colors": ["default", "Racing Red", "black", "blue", "orange", "white", "wine_red"] }
House colors vs. brand colors
- House colors (
color_make: "Vehicleimagery"):white,silver,graphite,black,beige,brown,red,wine_red,orange,yellow,green,blue,dark_blue— a curated metallic line, available on every car with color support and listed in every car's/colors. - Brand colors: original manufacturer paints (e.g. Mercedes-Benz *Luganograu Metallic*). They are *listed* on cars of that brand — but any active catalog color can be *requested* on any car.
Request a color
Pass the name as ?color= (case-insensitive; URL-encode spaces):
GET /api/BMW/1/2004/Basis/base/front?color=wine_red
GET /api/BMW/1/2004/Basis/base/front?color=Racing%20Red
The response's settings.color echoes the applied color; image_url delivers the repainted car.
Combine with everything else
Colors compose with every other delivery option:
?color=wine_red&shadow=true # painted + studio shadow
?color=wine_red&transparency=true&format=png # painted cut-out
?color=wine_red&format=webp&width=1200 # painted, WebP, 1200 px
?color=wine_red&mirroring=true # painted on the showroom floor
Finishes (API v2 add-on)
On add-on images every catalogue colour is painted with its real finish:
| Finish | Look |
|---|---|
solid | Gloss paint |
metallic | Darker flanks, highlights in the effect colour, a fine sparkle |
pearl | Shifts towards a second colour at the edges |
satin | Soft half gloss |
matte | No reflections |
chrome | Mirror finish in the colour |
aluminium | Polished metal |
carbon | Visible weave under clear coat |
A hex colour is gloss; put a finish in front of it for another one:
?color=c8102e # gloss
?color=metallic_315fbf # metallic, effect colour derived
?color=metallic_315fbf_5693f9 # metallic with your own effect colour
?color=matte_283b56 # matt_ works too
?color=satin_384a8c
?color=carbon_545454
?color=chrome_eac972
metallic, pearl and satin take an optional second hex for the effect colour. The response shows the finish as settings.paint; /api/options lists the finishes under addon.options.color.finishes.
On add-on studio images white and other light paints are shown bright and clean, also without a color; lifestyle scenes keep the light of the scene.
Fallbacks
Color requests never fail hard:
- Unknown color name → default paint, errornote
F04. - Color not allowed by your plan → default paint, errornote
C09. color=default(or omitting the parameter) → the original paint.
Colors apply to exterior views; interior views always show the original interior.
Performance
A recolor is produced on the first request and is then served from the CDN cache — repeat requests are instant, exactly like every other transform.
