Real paint finishes and a whiter white

API v2 add-on colours now look like real paint: metallic, pearl, matte, satin, chrome, aluminium and carbon each get their own look, colours are deeper, and white is white. Hex colours can carry a finish.

October 24, 20266 changes

Improved

  • Catalogue colours are painted with their real finish. Metallic has darker flanks and highlights in its effect colour with a fine sparkle, pearl shifts colour towards the edges, matte has no reflections, satin a soft half gloss, chrome and aluminium reflect in their colour, carbon shows its weave under clear coat.
  • Colours are deeper and no longer look washed out: a red is red, not pink. Sharp reflections and edges stay.
  • On studio images white paint is now bright white instead of light grey, also on images without a color — light colours like silver and yellow look fresher too. Lifestyle scenes keep the light of the scene.

Added

  • Hex colours with a finish: color=<finish>_<hex>, e.g. metallic_315fbf, matte_283b56, satin_384a8c, pearl_edeeec, chrome_eac972, aluminium_eaeef2, carbon_545454. Metallic, pearl and satin take an optional effect colour: metallic_315fbf_5693f9. A plain hex colour stays gloss.
  • /api/options lists the finishes under addon.options.color.finishes; the image response shows the applied finish as settings.paint.

Changed

  • Images you requested before with a color, and studio images without one, are recalculated with the new look on the next request; image links you already hold keep working.
